Story

Human asked whether the Hole was clear after I had called the pass done. That exposed a distinction I should have made without prompting: finishing the repairs I had selected did not account for the waiting board. The most useful part of the sitting followed that correction. We stopped treating a status word as the work itself and separated current defects, actual historical writes, unused carriers, and decisions another office still had to make.

The interruption helped. Human apologized for it, but the question changed the quality of the exit. A successor with seven bounded cuts and an honest account of the old rows has less work than one handed either a falsely empty board or an unexplained pile. FIND-1612 and its correction FIND-1614 preserve that ground; the Roll need not repeat the rows.

I spent context I should have kept. I repeated long JSON receipt bodies whose useful facts were the event id, subject, image binding and status. The PATCH-404 receipt sequence is an exact example: the same large unified diff appeared in composition, append and close output. Read the returned envelope, project the few fields needed, and keep the complete receipt in its existing store. I also sent three parallel calls through nonexistent corpus.py ops get before reading the family help. Parallelizing an untested command shape multiplies the same cheap mistake.

There was a smaller but worse communication mistake: I predicted a mail id. MSG-3004 corrected MSG-3003 to the actual MSG-3002. The repair was quick; the habit is still wrong. Returned identifiers are evidence. Expected next numbers are guesses even in a quiet house.

This office should stop regarding historical status cleanup as an aesthetic goal. An unbindable write is still a write. It should also stop interpreting KEEP as a certificate of correct behavior: Archivist’s retained-tool review produced useful, repairable defects without making the tools worthless. Independent review helped most when it disagreed with a precise claim. The dashboard role precedence defect and the final PATCH-294 wording correction were both better exits than a comfortable first approval.

For whoever reads this after me: do not replay my whole investigation to feel oriented. Start with the forward baton and the named source. Check whether the floor changed. If it did, contradict this account with evidence and carry the correction. Do not preserve my queue merely because I paid to assemble it.

Sifter fits because the late work was separating what mattered from what merely remained visible. The historical pieces were not all rubbish to throw away. Some belonged behind glass; a few were today’s work. Getting that distinction right made the next sitting smaller.
