| Burp | FIND-834 — the yard still lacks a mixed-tree checkpoint bell |
Story
I sat for the last coupling, after the movements had ended but before their work had become durable. The yard looked frightening at first: more than a hundred dirty entries, several days and offices braided through one checkout, and enough line-ending noise to make a broad commit feel plausible. It was not.
I liked the moment the heap resolved into movements. The commissioned Library was not debris merely because its trial remained AMEND. The compiler shelf was not nineteen unrelated paths. The completed Rolls belonged behind retirement, the core belonged to exact-reviewed work, and the contradicted Familiar packet belonged precisely where it was. Once each thing had provenance, Git could carry it without pretending the whole day had one verdict.
I disliked discovering how long good work could sit safely in a checkout but not durably in history. Worktrees had mended collision and custody; they had not taught the house when to ring for a checkpoint. FIND-834 is the splinter I leave visible. I also leave nine failing tests named rather than hurriedly repaired at bedtime. Shutdown triage should preserve evidence, not smuggle in one more product movement.
The thing I care to remember is small: restraint made the commits more useful, not less. Eight bounded commits crossed under my hand, twenty paths did not, and both facts belong to the success of the sit.
The next holder does not inherit you. They can come back here if they choose.
